पाथेयम्_(जीवन रूपी यात्रा के लिए सुभाषित रूपी भोज्यसामग्री )_(Good saying as provisions for the journey of life)

1. पृथिव्यां त्रीणि रत्नानि जलमन्नं सुभाषितम् ।

  मूढैः पाषाणखण्ङेषु रत्नसंज्ञा विधीयते॥ १॥

          यदि सत्संग्डतिरतो भविष्यसि भविष्यसि।

          अथ दुर्जनसंसर्गे पतिष्यसि पतिष्यसि॥ २॥

हिंदी अनुवाद 

 पृथ्वी पर तीन रतन हैं - जल, अन्न और अच्छे कथन। मूर्खो के द्वारा ही पत्थर के टुकड़ों को रत्न नाम दिया जाता है। (१)

यदि सज्जनो की संगती में लीन कल्याण के पथ पर बने रहोगे, अन्यथा दुर्जनों की संगती में आसक्त रहोगे तो अपने कल्याण के मार्ग मे भ्रष्ट हो जाओगे अर्थात गिरते ही चले जाओगे। (२)

English Translation

There are three gems on Earth - water, food, and good words. Stone pieces are named gems by fools. (1)

If absorbed in the company of gentlemen, you will remain on the path of welfare, otherwise, you will remain engrossed in the company of the wicked, and you will become corrupt in your path of welfare,i.e, your will stop achieving anything in your life. (2)

2. गच्छन् पिपीलको याति योजनानां शतान्यपि।

अगच्छन् वैनतेयोऽपि पदमेकं न गच्छति॥ ३॥

        शोको नाशयते धैर्यं, शोको नाशयते श्रुतम्।

        शोको नाशयते सर्वं, नास्ति शोकसमो रिपुः॥ ४॥

हिंदी अनुवाद 

जाता हुआ चींटा भी कोसों तक चला जाता है। और न जाता गरुड़ पक्षी सबसे तेज गति से उड़ने वाला पक्षी भी एक कदम भी नहीं जा पाता। (३ )

चिंता धैर्य को नष्ट करता है। चिंता शास्त्रादि के सुने हुए ज्ञान को नष्ट करता है। चिंता सबकुछ नष्ट कर देता है। शोक अर्थात् चिंता के समान कोई शत्रु नहीं है। (४ )

English Translation

The tiny ant can walk several miles . And Garuda bird; the fastest flying bird can not go even one step(If it makes up its mind). (3)

Grief destroys patience. Grief destroys the knowledge of ethology given to us by our elders. Grief destroys everything. There is no enemy like grief. (4)

3. गौरवं प्राप्यते दानात् न वित्तस्य संचयात्।

स्थितिरुच्चैः पयोदानां पयोधीनामधः स्थिथिः॥ ५॥

      सदभिस्तु लीलयां प्रोक्तं शिलालिखितमक्षरम्।

      असभ्दिः शपथेनापि  जले लिखितमक्षरम्॥ ६।

हिंदी अनुवाद

धन का दान करने से गौरव प्राप्त होता है न कि संग्रह करने से। जल देने वाले मेघों की स्थिति ऊपर होती है तथा जल धारण करने वाले समुद्रों की स्तिथि नीचे होती है। (५)

सज्जनों कि द्वारा लीला में कहा गया शब्द भी चट्टान पर लिखे हुए अक्षर के समान होता है। असज्जनों द्वारा शपथ ग्रहण करके भी कहा हुआ शब्द जल में लिखे अक्षर की तरह होता है। (६)

Engish Translation

Donation of wealth brings glory and not its collection. The position of the clouds giving water is above and the position of the oceans holding water is below. (5)

The words said by the gentlemen in sarcasm are similar to the letters written on the rock. And even the words spoken by wicked persons in oath are like the letters written in the water. (6)

4. भवन्ति नम्रास्तरवः फलोद्गमैः

              नवाम्बुर्भूरिविलम्बिनो घनाः।

     अनुध्दताः सत्पुरुषाः समृद्धिभिः 

              स्वभाव एवैषः परोपकारिणाम्॥ ७॥

हिंदी अनुवाद

फलों के आने पर पेड़ झुक जाते हैं। नये जलों से युक्त होने पर मेघ धरती की ओर अत्यधिक झुक जाते हैं। समृद्धि आने पर सज्जन लोग विनम्र हो जाते हैं। यही परोपकार करने वालों का स्वभाव होता है। (७)

English Translation

Trees are bend when fruits arrive. The clouds become highly inclined towards the earth when they get  filled with new water. Gentlemen become humble when prosperity comes. This is the nature of philanthropists. (7)

5. काष्ठादग्निर्जायते मथ्यमानाद् 

       भूमिस्तोयं खन्यमाना ददाति।

सोत्साहानां नास्त्यसाध्यं नराणां

               मार्गारब्धाः सर्वयत्नाः फलन्ति॥ ८॥

हिंदी अनुवाद

मथने से लकड़ी से आग उत्पन्न होती है। खोदी जाती हुई धरती जल देती है। उत्साहयुक्त व्यक्तियों के लिए कुछ भी असाध्य अर्थात असंभव नहीं है। सही दिशा में प्रारम्भ किये गए सभी प्रयत्न फल देने वाले होते हैं। (८)

English Translation

Churning produces fire from wood. Digged Earth gives water. Nothing is impossible for enthusiastic people. All efforts started in the right direction are fruitful. (8)

 6. वयमिह परितुष्टाः वल्कलैस्त्वं दुकूलैः

                   सम इह परितोषो निर्विशेषो विशेषः।

स तु भवति यस्य तृष्णा विशाला

                             मनसि च परितुष्टे कोऽर्थवान को दरिद्रः॥ ९॥

हिंदी अनुवाद

यहाँ हम सब वल्कलवस्त्रों से खुश हो गए, तुम रेशमी वस्त्रों से। इन दोनों सामान्य तथा विशेष स्थितियों में संतोष एक समान है। वही व्यक्ति दरिद्र होता है जिसकी इच्छाएँ बढ़ीं हों, और मन के संतुष्ट होने पर धनवान और गरीब का कोई भेद नहीं होता। (९ )

English Translation

Some people become happy with old and torn clothes, some become happy with silk clothes. In both these general and special situations, satisfaction is the same. A person is impoverished when its desires are increased. There is no difference between rich and poor when the mind is satisfied.

7. ऐश्वर्यस्य विभूषणं सुजनता शौर्यस्य वाक्संयमो

       ज्ञानस्योपशमः कुलस्य विनयो वित्तस्य पात्रे व्ययः।

अक्रोधस्तपसः क्षमा बलवतां धर्मस्य निर्व्याजता

       सर्वेषामपि सर्वकारणमिदं शीलं परं भूषणम्॥ १०॥

हिंदी अनुवाद

ऐश्वर्य का आभूषण सज्जनता है। शौर्य का आभूषण वाणी पर नियंत्रण है। ज्ञान का आभूषण मन की शांति है। कुल का आभूषण विनम्रता है। धन का आभूषण उचित पात्र पर खर्च करना है। तप का आभूषण क्रोध न करना है, बलवानों का आभूषण क्षमादान होता है। धर्म का आभूषण छल - कपट रहित होना है। सभी का कारण यह शील सदाचार सभी का सर्वश्रेष्ठ आभूषण है। (१०)

English Translation

The jewelry of opulence is gentleness. Jewelry of valor is control over speech. Jewelry of knowledge is peace of mind. The jewelry of the clan is modesty. Jewelry of money is to be spent in the appropriate place. The jewelry of tenacity is not to be angry, jewelry of strong ones is forgiveness. The ornament of religion is not to be deceived. For all the reasons, this modesty is the best jewelry of all.
